In the event of winter weather, we would like to remind everyone to be prepared and drive safely during inclement weather. As in the past, snow removal operations will first be concentrated on the main roadways of the Sanitary District. Side streets and cul-de-sacs will be addressed as soon as time and conditions permit. While every storm event is different and results in its own set of challenges, our goal is to at least have every roadway throughout the District plowed open within 48 hours after the storm event stops. The chipping of icy hills and curves will follow-up on a continuous basis until warmer temperatures allow for ample melting. Please remember the constantly freezing and thawing conditions, especially at higher elevations, can make a roadway very slick soon after we apply stone abrasives so please drive cautiously and treat each roadway as though it hasn’t been treated.
The following are a few tips to remember this winter which will hopefully help us and keep you safe:
- Be prepared, both at home and in your vehicle. Keep ample food, supplies, medicines, etc., on hand.
- Stay at home during and immediately after the storm event if you can. Staying off of the roadways allows us to get them plowed and treated sooner.
- If you must drive, then 4WD and tire chains/cables are strongly recommended for safe travel.
- Do not park your vehicles on the travel portion or shoulders of the roadways. This hampers our ability to remove snow and may result in your vehicle being towed.
- Do not park any vehicles, trailers, etc. in cul-de-sacs or other turn around areas. We need these areas to allow our vehicles to turn around.
- We cannot clean out private driveways.
- Due to liability reasons, we cannot assist with stuck vehicles.
- We push snow to the right hand side of the roadways and as a result will push snow across your driveway apron. Please keep this in mind when you are cleaning your driveway out. If the roadway has not been plowed, then there is a very good chance that we will fill your entrance apron with snow when we come by. This is not intentional, but necessary to clear the roadways. We cannot stop to clean out your entrance.
- ABSOLUTELY NO SALT, CALCIUM CHLORIDE, OR ANY OTHER MELTING AGENT IS TO BE PLACED ON ANY UNPAVED ROADWAY OR PARKING LOT BY RESIDENTS TO AID IN THE REMOVAL OR MELTING OF SNOW AND ICE. THIS SEVERLY DAMAGES THE ROADWAY AND TAKES CONSIDERABLE TIME AND COSTS TO REPAIR. Rock chips, sand, and/or dust are permissible to aid with traction if absolutely necessary.
