The Code of Virginia Section 15.2-2308 states that every locality that has enacted a zoning ordinance pursuant to the Code of Virginia shall establish a board of zoning appeals that consists of either five or seven residents of the locality. The Warren County Board of Zoning Appeals consists of five members appointed by the Circuit Court. One member of the BZA should be a member of the Planning Commission. Terms of office of Board members is five years. Members may be reappointed and any vacancies occurring shall be filled by appointment by the Circuit Court for the unexpired portion of the term involved.

Powers and Duties
  • Hear and decide appeals from any order, requirement, decision or interpretation made by the Zoning Administrator or his agent in the administration or enforcement of the Zoning Ordinance.
  • Render decisions on specific requests for variance which are not contrary to the public interest and when a literal enforcement of the provisions of the Zoning Ordinance would result in unnecessary hardship, provided that the spirit of the ordinance is observed.
  • Hear and decide all other matters referred to it and upon which it is required to act by the Zoning Ordinance.
Meetings

The Warren County Board of Zoning Appeals meets on an as needed basis the first Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM in the Warren County Government Center. The public is invited and encouraged to attend meetings.
