Notice on Fee Adjustments

Starting April 20, 2022, the Middle Department Inspection Agency, Incorporated (MDIA) will revise its inspection fees.

Safeguarding the health, life, and overall well-being of Warren County residents, the Building Inspections Department is the chief enforcement arm for:

  • Virginia's Uniform Statewide Building Code
  • Erosion and Sediment Control Handbook

Covering the entirety of Warren County, including the Town of Front Royal, our mandate stems from Virginia State Statutes 36-105 and 10.1-562, aligning with Chapters 82 and 150 of the Warren County Code. Our mission revolves around ensuring safe and compliant constructions, encompassing new projects, renovations, and restorations, all adhering to state-approved health, safety, energy, and water conservation standards.

Key Information

For a safer and more compliant Warren County, always ensure adherence to established building norms and regulations. We're here to assist every step of the way!

Building Code Adherence

Any new construction, additions, alterations, demolition, or change in use mandates a permit as per the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code. Work not explicitly excluded by the Code also requires due permissions.

Erosion & Sediment Control

Land disturbances exceeding 10,000 square feet need an approved Erosion and Sediment Control Plan and Land Disturbing Permit. For individual single-family dwelling site developments, an Agreement in Lieu of a Land Disturbing Permit is acceptable.

Routine maintenance tasks such as painting, drywall touch-ups, minor roofing, or fixture replacements don't necessitate a permit. For more insights, Frequently Asked Questions are available, or contact our helpline at 540-636-9973.

Permit Applications

You can submit these at our office either in person or via mail.

Electric Inspections

Conducted by the MDIA, you'll require both a county electrical permit application and an MDIA inspection form. The latter can be sourced from our office or MDIA's at 3082-2 Shawnee Drive, Winchester, Virginia. They can be reached at 800-248-6342.
